Schoology Discussions

Schoology discussions have many applications within a classroom.  Sometimes you may want to have students post their own response before reading or responding to other student's posts. You can do this with the quick click of the Members icon in discussion options.

For more information about the options available with discussions, check out the Course Materials: Discussion article in Schoology support.

Connect One Drive, Google Drive with Schoology

There are two apps that connect Schoology and Google Drive and/or One Drive. The Resource App allows you to access your Google and One Drive through the Schoology Resource menu. The Assignment App allows you to assign a Google or Microsoft document within an assignment.  The advantage of attaching a file through an assignment app is that you can check student progress as well as student submissions.

To install the apps:

  1. Open the App Center

  2. Scroll until you find the Resource App or Assignment App you would like to install.

  3. Follow on screen prompts to add the apps to your account.

  4. Login to your accounts and give Schoology permission to access your accounts.

Note: The Microsoft Assignment App is automatically added to your assignments. However, if your One Drive files are not showing. Click the Option menu, logout of your account and log back in.  This should reconnect your accounts.

Embedding YouTube Videos

Embedding a video into Schoology, instead of linking to a video, will allow students to watch the videos without leaving the Schoology platform.  You can do this with any video that provides the embed code.

Embed a Video as a Course Material

  1. Find the video you wish to embed on YouTube or another website.  Select the "Share" option and look for the Embed code.  Copy this code.

  2. Within Schoology navigate to the Material section of a course, select "Add Materials" and then select "Add File/Link/External Tool"

  3. Next select "Link."  Paste the embed code that you copied from the video.  For embed codes, you will have to enter the title that you want to be displayed to your students. Click "Add."

Embed a Video within an Assignment/Page/Assessment Question/...

  1. Find the video you wish to embed on YouTube or another website.  Select the "Share" option and look for the Embed code.  Copy this code.

  2. Select "Insert Content" from the menu bar at the top of the item in which you would like to embed the video and then select "Image/Media"

  3. Select "From the Web" and then click "Media" (Upload Media is used for media you have saved on your computer)

  4. Next, paste the embed code and select "Insert Media"

  5. Another option, if you have installed the YouTube App in Schoology, is to select the YouTube App from the Insert Content menu.  Type in the title to find the video and then select "Import as Embed"

How to Eliminate Related Videos at the End of YouTube Videos

To eliminate the related videos at the end of YouTube videos you need to add "rel=0;" into the embed code.

  1. Edit the item that has an embedded video and select "Switch to HTML"

  2. Find the "?" in the embed code and type "rel=0;" right after the "?"

  3. Simple as that you have eliminated the related videos.

  2. Capture and save a screenshot of the worksheet. (see How-to video below)

  3. Create a Schoology Assessment

  4. Click on the Questions tab and add a Label Image question.

Password Protect Schoology Assessments

Password

Giving the same test to multiple sections? You can password protect the assessments to ensure students cannot access them without the password.  This is especially helpful with linked sections.  You can Enable submissions but students can only begin by using a password.

  1. Create an Assessment

  2. Click on Select Sections to Customize

  3. Enable Submissions and Enable Password.  You can create a unique password for each section.  Passwords need to be more than 5 characters and are case sensitive.
